Curtain hanging by yourself? Professionally made curtains should be hung and dressed professionally as it’s something of an art. It’s called ‘dressing’. This requires hanging them them by pin hooks into the runners of a track or eyes of pole rings, and then smoothing by hand the layers of fabric and lining into neat natural lines. Then the curtain is tied with strips. These should ideally be left around the curtains for up to five days in order that the folds ‘learn’ their shape and are encouraged to stay that way in the long term. Dressing them this way gives the curtains linear structure and a professional, neat drape. Resist steaming your curtains as fabric can shrink. The creases may well drop out naturally after a while. If this doesn’t work, professional curtain fitters carry an anti crease spray which may help relax the creases.
